A sad day

Oh Triniwood.... Triniwood...... Triniwood... Triniwood!!!!

What have we become?

To think that we are no longer safe in our own "sweet" country. I will try to stay out of the politricks as much as possible on this blog, but I had to say that something HAS to be done about Trinidad's sad state of affairs.

We live in a lawless, reckless society where the lack of respect for each other has gotten intolerably scary, esp to females. My heart goes out to the family of the young lady murdered yesterday.

We need to do something Trinidad and Tobago... AND FAST!

TnT Erotic Week????

Yip!!!! That's right!!!

It seems we here in Triniwood are doing it taboo style and will be having our very own Erotic Art Week.

"The week-long erotic art event runs from 23rd June to 2nd July, 2009 and will be spread across a number of POS venues. This year the theme is “Open”. Since the discussion on erotica in T&T has, so far, been under-documented and under-exposed, we’re literally “Open” to any contemporary artistic exploration of our erotic ethos," quotes the hosts of first annual event.
Invites have already been sent out via Facebook and to specially invited guests, I think I may need to sneak a peek at one of these events. hee hee

This issue has been on shelves for a bit, but check out Vibe Magazine's June/July Issue which features the spendiferousness of TnT carnival =)
I particularly love this picture (not because it was my section or anything) but because it captures the "Vibe" of what The Greatest Show on Earth really is!
LAVS it!

Attitude Gyal!

So this review was supposed to be on Fashion Week, instead I will twist it an ummph.

I attended fashion week like my other fashion forward wanna-be-seen Trinis, and I have to say I was impressed (to an extent). Kudos for the whole platform to broadcast Trinidadian and Caribbean creativityand such, as some of the presentations were quite good. On the OTHER hand, give some people an inch and they take a mile, and a mile they went. Off along the people catwalk showing utter nonsense.

Here is where the twist comes in.... ATTITUDE!

I understand models, that you may have been chosen to participate in this auspicious occasion, but the Naomi Campbell diva ISH is not at all necessary. This goes for you as well designers and wanna be socialites out there. I would think that perhaps some young'uns came to fashion week, hoping to meet one of their fav designer with the dream of being inspired and perhaps even being discovered. It certainly was not easy with the turned up noses and the some what unpleasant vibe that I got after the shows. "Who's who" run tings!!!!!

Remember a person is still a person, no matter how small.

Here's the OTHER twist.... I know!!!!! ANOTHER one!

To all you power trippers out there, who feed on the need to embarrass others. NOT cute! I am not a model, but I must admit I have the proportions. I can wear alot of things many people won't or can't, because of my body type. I DID NOT MAKE ME!!! So here's where I take the side of the "model." Fashion is what you wear. Style is how you wear it. That's why most girls who are models, model. They can wear clothes and bring them to life, whether it be couture or jeans and a tee shirt. Please doh hate on the people cuz they cuter than you.

In summary: Be you, everyone else is taken! (but be kind to everyone not just you)

Beach House (Review numero uno)

All I have to say iz.... Trinis are fancy!

Beach house was THE place to be this weekend, as everyone n their mom was there. (I am not kidding I saw ppl's parents liming..lol). Lil traffic getting there...OK! RHEL traffic getting there but once you passed maracas it was smooth sailing. The setting was loverlee, the view to die for, and for a UNinclusive party, the drinks were flowing. On to the juicy stuff. Zee ensembles.

I must say I spotted a few trends in the stuff the ladies wore. (i.e long patterned dresses, lots of linens, bright hues, and funky flats) AWESOME good times! Quite impressive, and like my mother always says "Trinis love to play dress up eh" and that they do! Bold accessories (which included some FIERCE sunglasses) were another favorite item on every fashionistas must have list. Everyone was a fashionista on sunday! E-V-E-R-Y-O-N-E-!

Sigh alas, with the good comes the WTF moments of life. Beach house was no exception.

Boots at the beach? ummmmm NO..... I let the few women I saw with their high heels on pass after I saw one young lady donning her whatever animal hide HIGH HEELED BOOTS.... double sigh. I almost wept.

Don't believe me?

<-------SIGH!

Trini Fashion is hurr!!!!!

Oh my Gasp!

The billboards are up!!!!

My fellow blogger, Ms. Step Up Trini Style, did it best. So, here is the link to her article. I SHALL be seeing what our local designers have to offer, while at the same time trying to catch a glimpse of the super delicious Nigel Barker of ANTM. YUM!

P.S. Stay tuned for Beach House reviews, the things i saw..... sigh!

To post or not to post

We all love you Facebook, but MUST you make it so damn hard to re-use an outfit? REALLY?

I find myself reluctant to post pics of my most fab attire, just because I know I will not get the opportunity to wear it again for some time. So I ask.... How long is long enough until an outfit can be repeated/reused/reworn?

To answer this, we need to take into account that there is only one Paris Hilton, Kim Kardashian, Beyonce and Rihanna, and all of these women are ummmmmm WEALTHY and can afford to buy clothing to their hearts' desire.... LE SIGH! Not to mention the fact that they are given free clothing from various designers to rock out on a daily basis......HEY free advertising is awesome i say!

So until us mere mortals get this opportunity, I think its quite alright to rinse and reuse, once we follow the strategic rules.
Jeans: We all have our fav pair, so i say rock them til they rip! Change of tops, shoes, accessories no one will know the difference.

Shirts/Blouses/Tops: To combat this problem, try the same style in different colours. Why buy one? Buy one in every shade! :)

Dresses: Depending on whether it is a day/evening dress, this is a tricky one. Use yah common sense with this one girls, if you know you wore it last week to the club, lets not wear it out for a while hmmmmmm..

Shoes: WEAR THEM AS OFTEN AS YOU LIKE...... a broken in shoe is a comfortable one! It is not cute to go shoeless at any event!

Here's a trick: Try a 'uniform'.... My personal fav is the white wife beater n skinny jeans look. Buy 2 million wifebeaters, and rock them with your favourite jeans, shoes, accessories. No one can say you wore that already, because in reality it would be a new one. Then WOW them with a killer outfit every now and again.

Review Time

Meiling's M Sqaured

One word: FANTABULICIOUS!!!

We here in the Caribbean have been blessed with the weather and attitude to rock these types of looks; Bright, Vibrant and Awesome!

Meiling brings a fresh new (**cough.. and affordable..cough**) look to her classic lines. M Squared pieces are sold exclusively at Micles in Trinidad and have been flying off the shelves n hangers.

The key to rocking these looks..... BUY KEY PIECES! Please ladies do not go buy the whole outfit and rock it out like you are on the photoshoot. There are classic shirts, skirts and trousers of various hues that can be countlessly worn without anyone knowing any better =)
P.S. Look out for Meiling's M Squared at TnT's Fashion Week (May 29th- June 2nd 2009)

May's To Do List

Now, you know we have to be at every fabulous event we hear about.....

SO! Here are places we shall be fashionably late at this month:

1. Beach House
Known as one of the sexiest parties to be seen at... Imma see you there!

2. TnT Fashion Week
I will see who is green with envy round here!

3. I am Legend 2
Where legendary hits n misses are bound to happen!

Oooooooooooooo Itz da Life!!!!!!

Like the song goes....

Ooooooooooo It's da Life.... Camera...... Ackshun...... Trinnnnnnnnniwoooooooood!!!!!!

Let's face it people, Trinidad and Tobago is not the quaint little twin island republic it used to be.

Sigh... I know...... get over it!

There are 12 million and two things to do on each of the 52 weekends we gats in the year. From Christmas, to Carnival, to "Summer." We Trinis live it up! Having said this why not document the fabulous and ummmm NOT so fabulous hits and misses that we all see on our nights out.

Think of it as a Trini version of Glamour magazine's Do's and Dont's :)
( for those of us who read Glamour anyway.)
